Planning is on the way for XKAR’s 2010 season. Next weekend Jan 16th we are hosting the Lego model contest!! We also have a rocket day and a FIRST Lego Camp in the works for this year.

The big news is XKAR  is growing and will have 2-3 teams for the FLL this year. Along with new teams XKAR is planning on hosting a FLL regional tournament and of cours the Rookie Day again.

Been awhile since I updated you guys!! Well thats because the team was working hard to get ready for the WSU regional.

XKAR did great for their first year they place 7th in the robot performance PLUS

2nd Place Quality Design Award!!!

The kids did well in all the FLL areas. They have learned alot and have taugh me alot.

Look out for next year XKAR has big plans !!

We are struggling with teamwork. Alot of the kids have great ideas but need to find ways to share them better. With help from Anna (A team mom) we are going to have Friday night Teamwork party.. Pizza and Fun!! I’m also planning a fun night of no work but just play!! Maybe a Video Game time or board game night. 

We need to get back focused on having fun and working.. With tournament time getting close the team is drifting apart  and I as a coach is going insane LOL so Its time to bring them back in!!

Rookie Day was a hit!! Each team learned alot. Our team found out we have a ways to go on the teamwork side. But their Robot mission went well and they have alot of ideas to improve them

The kids went to XWARN tonight to share their research project and to show off the robot runs. All of them did well but needed to speak louder. I also found myself talking for them alot so I need to work on that!! The robot runs went well but the light sensor needed adjusted cause the lights in the room was dim.

Now on to this weekend and Rookie Day. More practice is well worth the day but and most important FUN FUN FUN.

All hoped up on candy from trick or treat and Jadden’s party from last night the kids got to work. We have worked the last two meetings on the project. The kids broke down the project board into sections and everyone has a part to do for homework. Some of the kids worked on a new mission program to see if they can run it better. The way they have it now  doesn’t work the same all the time!

 We only have one more meeting before our scrimmage. Have alot to do but we are looking foward to hearing what the judges say at the  ROOKIE DAY. That way we can make changes as needed. Feed back is always good for us even if its not what we wanted to hear!!

The kids came up with a cute skit for their project. Some are having trouble cause they don’t want to speak in front of people. I plan on working on this and pushing them to just relax with it. We had them go out back and do the Ho Down Throw down(dance). Couple of the kids would not do it. I think they felt they are to old or just care to much what people will think of them. Hold on kids I have more plans to “help” you get over this fear. All cause I care about you..

They also worked on running the robot with the 3 programs they have now. We learned alot and have a list on ideas to improve and add to them.

The kids had a meeting with Christopher Berger Xenia’s city engineer. He gave us alot of great information and supplies to help with our project. The kids had a few great questions and I could tell they are thinking alot on this topic.

Even the parents and I learned alot talking with him. Will be nice to see where we go to now!!

The kids worked on the truck mission today. They have a great little program to just go release the truck and then back to base. The other mission they have worked on is getting to the sensor circle. They have a working program but dosent work great every ttime so they are working to improve it. The kids are working on team work!! Some are really working great and some still need alot of work but for sure todays meeting was alot better then last. 2000% better.

The kids changed their research project topic and have got great ideas….

Todays meeting went ok. The kids had a hard time being a team but we are hoping they have moved past it. The kids came up with the idea of building 2 robots the same so they can work on more then one mission at a time. we are also going to have 3 hour meetings to see what we can get done.

Having 10 kids on the team is tough but we will pull it off !!
